Getting Started With GameStrat Replay
Friends, today’s post is brought to you by GameStrat. GameStrat provides an all in one video analysis software that combines live to bench replay and coding. Click here to check out their website. This post is brought to you in partnership with GameStrat.
Today’s post will be an overview of how to get started with GameStrat who offer a full comprehensive live tagging solution along with their replay to bench technology. Their technology is available on mac and windows operating systems. If this sounds a little familiar to you, its because we discussed live replay to bench in a past post which you can view here.
We are going to touch on the basics:
Getting started
Folder Structure
Clip list
Capturing and marking games
Creating a meeting
Getting started
When you sign on with GameStrat you’ll get a unique link that will allow you create an account. GameStrat offers step by step videos on how to set up your hardware, download the application and start setting up your computer. The total viewing time is 33 minutes and they are extremely detailed. I was very impressed and I felt very confident I could hit the ground running once I finished the videos.
Folder Structure
Organization is a top priority for any video coach and it is important to set up your folder structure before you do anything else. Go to settings, devices and Root Folder to get started.
You can start building your structure for season, games, meetings, practices and sub folders. Here is a quick example:
Clip List
The next thing to set up is our clip lists and there are three sections to look at. We can set up our event tags, sub events and hotkeys which are our playback controls for video.
We can now set up our closed and open events. If you’re new to video coaching terminology, closed events have a set pre and post roll which means you can hit the button once and it will start and end automatically. An open event is an event that you have to open and manually stop because there is not pre determined end time.
GameStrat will give you pre loaded events that you can edit which will speed up your set up process. You can also change the default group names to what you prefer to call them. Everything is super customizable in terms of titles, hot key selection, pre/post roll and colours.
Capturing and marking games
In order to work on games, we must live capture them or import video using the “post game” function. This is how you would pre scout or bring in other video you might want to use for special teams or skill development. When you click on the record button from the side panel, this window will show up.
Once you click start a new capture in the middle of the screen, you can label your video and decide if its a live capture or a post game capture.
Here is whats the window will look while you are capturing and tagging video:
A cool feature is that you can manually sync the game clock in GameStrat to the actual game clock. How many times are you trying to find *that* event at (insert time stamp)? This function (highlighted in green) will help be more efficient. You can tap the spacebar to start and stop the clock.
Creating a meeting
Once your game is complete, go to review and create a new playlist to create a new meeting. There is a really cool feature is that will pull events for you instead of you going from game to game and doing this. You can select all Chances For from the last 3 games and run a filter to obtain the results instead of going into those games individually. There are tabs at the bottom so you can see which meetings are open and you can close them individually.
Now you are ready to create your meeting from your cuts.
